Goodbye rumors, hello Nintendo Switch 2: This is what the new Nintendo console looks like

2 mins read

The day has come! Nintendo has finally revealed to the world its new console: the Nintendo Switch 2. After weeks of rumors and speculation, the Japanese company decided to put an end to the uncertainty with a video posted on its social networks and YouTube channel, showing the design and the first features of this long-awaited device.

A familiar but renewed design

At first glance, the Nintendo Switch 2 retains the essence of the original design that we love so much, but with some interesting improvements. The console features a slightly larger, 8-inch screen, which maintains small edges although not as thin as some expected. The predominant color is black, with touches of blue and red around the joysticks, giving it a sleek, modern style.

The Joy-Con controls also received a significant redesign. They now connect magnetically instead of using rails, promising a more comfortable and durable experience. These Joy-Con can also be used independently or attached to a peripheral to form a single controller, as in the previous version. By the way, there’s an additional button on the right controller that Nintendo hasn’t detailed yet – what do you think it might be?

The rear stand has also been renewed. It now has a U-shaped design that seems more stable and allows the screen to be placed in various positions, ideal for playing in desktop mode. As for the dock, there are also changes: it has rounded corners and exposes the upper part of the console, something that is striking for being different from the current model.

Backward compatibility and more details

One of the strong points of the Switch 2 is its backward compatibility. Nintendo confirmed that it will be possible to play the titles of the original Switch, both in physical and digital format. However, there is a small caveat: some games may not be fully compatible. Nintendo clarified that it will provide more information about this later.

In addition, the teaser video hinted at a new Mario Kart game. The most detailed fans noticed a redesign of Donkey Kong’s face, with a style closer to that of the animated movie. Although no details were given about other games, this little teaser has everyone excited.

Key Events and Dates

Nintendo also announced a special Nintendo Direct about the Switch 2 for April 2. This event promises to reveal technical specifications and additional details about the console. In addition, in April there will be in-person events in cities such as New York, Paris, London and Tokyo, where the lucky ones will be able to test the console before its launch. Unfortunately, there will be no events in Latin America, but there is always hope for future opportunities.

Although Nintendo did not reveal either the price or the exact launch date, the video included a “2025” logo at the beginning, indicating that we could have the console in our hands this year.

A new era for Nintendo

The Nintendo Switch 2 represents an exciting evolution for the hybrid console that revolutionized the industry. With a refined design, backward compatibility and the promise of new gaming experiences, everything seems to indicate that Nintendo is ready to surprise us once again. Now we just have to wait to find out more details and, of course, get a unit before they sell out!

What do you think, are you ready for the Switch 2?
