Holy Week in Latin America is something very much our own. For many, it is a time of devotion, for others, a perfect break to disconnect from stress and recharge with vitamin D… that is: sun, sand and sea.
And yes, if there’s one thing we know how to do well here, it’s to enjoy the beaches the right way: with music, delicious food, family, friends and good vibes. That’s why today we want to tell you -as if we were having a cup of coffee or a beer- which are the most visited beaches during Easter Week in Latin America. Ready to make next year’s plan?
1. Copacabana, Brazil 🇧🇷

We start off strong. Copacabana is not just a beach, it’s a whole experience. It’s in Rio de Janeiro, and although it sounds cliché, there’s nothing like walking along its iconic promenade with views of Christ the Redeemer in the background.
During Holy Week, the vibe is electrifying: tourists from all over the world, locals dancing samba, and an energy that just grabs you. Plus, the sea is perfect for swimming or just floating while watching the sunset.
Friends tip: if you want an epic view, climb Pan de Azúcar at the end of the day. The postcard is like a movie.
2. Cancun, Mexico 🇲🇽

Ah, Cancun… that place where the Mexican Caribbean brings out its snooty side. Crystal clear waters, white sand like talcum powder and a nightlife that never stops.
At Easter, it fills up with Mexican families, international tourists and yes, also many spring breakers. It’s a destination where you can choose: an all-inclusive resort to relax to the max, or go exploring cenotes, Mayan ruins and partying in the hotel zone.
And if you want something a little quieter, you can move to Isla Mujeres or Playa del Carmen, which are close by.
3. Cartagena, Colombia 🇨🇴

Cartagena is pure charm. The mix of colonial history, Caribbean beaches and Afro-Colombian culture makes it unique.
During Holy Week, the walled city fills up with tourists who come both for the religious processions and for the warmth of the Caribbean. The most popular beaches, such as Bocagrande, get quite crowded, but if you go a little further, you can discover treasures such as Playa Blanca or the Rosario Islands.
And don’t leave without trying a good ceviche from Cartagena or an arepa de huevo.
4. Punta del Este, Uruguay 🇺🇾

Although it is most famous for its New Year’s Eve parties, Punta del Este is not far behind at Easter. Here the vibe is more elegant, more sophisticated, let’s say.
Beaches like La Brava and La Mansa offer spectacular views and plenty of space to walk, read or simply contemplate the sea. And if you’re more into gastronomy and art, this place has signature restaurants, galleries and super cool cafes.
Ideal if you want to vacation in style, without so much partying but with a good quality of beach life.
5. Mancora, Peru 🇵🇪

If we are talking about a beach with a backpacker soul, Mancora is the spot. This small paradise in northern Peru has a relaxed atmosphere, good surf, delicious food and sunsets that are engraved in the memory.
At Easter, it fills up with Peruvians traveling with family or friends, and also with travelers from all over the world looking for sun, ceviche and good vibes.
Here you don’t need much luxury. Just a hammock, a cold coconut, and let life slow down.
6. Montañita, Ecuador 🇪🇨

Montañita is pure flow. It’s the perfect mix of surf, party, good food and happy backpackers.
During Holy Week, this small town becomes an endless party: live music, beachfront bars, surfing competitions and an atmosphere so free that you forget the clock.
It is not for those seeking silence, but if your thing is relaxation, meeting new people and enjoy unhurried, you’ll love Montañita.
7. San Juan del Sur, Nicaragua 🇳🇮

This little corner of the Nicaraguan Pacific is earning its place in the hearts of many travelers. San Juan del Sur is quiet, warm and full of color.
During Holy Week, religious traditions are celebrated, but there is also room for relaxation. Beaches like Playa Hermosa or Playa Maderas are ideal for surfing or simply disconnecting from the world.
And if you like the eco-friendly vibe, you’ll find plenty of sustainable lodging options.
8. Tamarindo, Costa Rica 🇨🇷

We close this top with a flourish. Tamarindo has that perfect mix of beach, adventure and good energy. Costa Rica is famous for its biodiversity, and this beach reflects it: there are monkeys, iguanas and birds of all colors.
At Easter, the beach gets crowded, yes, but you can still feel that spirit of pure life that makes you fall in love. You can surf, do yoga at sunrise, eat an incredible rice with shrimp and end the day watching a sunset that seems hand-painted.
Bonus: tips for your next getaway
- Book early: Easter is high season all over the continent. If you can, book lodging and transportation at least three months in advance.
- Explore the locals: Although the famous beaches are amazing, there are also little gems nearby that are not so crowded. Go explore!
- Take care of your skin: It seems obvious, but many of us forget to use sunscreen… until it’s too late.
- Respect local traditions: Many beaches in Latin America have processions or religious celebrations. It is nice to be part of the environment with respect.
- And above all… disconnect for a while. Sometimes what we need most is just to see the sea, close our eyes and take a deep breath.
So now you know, if you missed the beach this year, you already have options for next year! Which one do you fancy the most? The truth is we are already looking at flights…
