Carlos Solórzano-Cuadra: Leadership, Service and Latino Pride in San Francisco

Carlos Solórzano-Cuadra’s story is a living reflection of the Latino spirit: resilient, hardworking, generous and deeply committed to the collective well-being. As a Nicaraguan immigrant who arrived in the United States in 1969, Carlos has not only witnessed the change and evolution of the Hispanic community, but has been an active part of its transformation, leading with passion and vision from the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce of San Francisco (HCCSF).

From Nicaragua to New York: A Journey of Purpose

Carlos emigrated from Nicaragua to New York in the late 1960s in search of new opportunities and a different future. Initially, he experienced a period of exploration as a merchant seaman and enjoyed the countercultural freedom of the hippie era. However, his desire to grow led him to settle in the United States, studying in different states such as New York, California and Illinois, not only academically, but also as a committed citizen.

Subsequently, Carlos proudly served in the United States Marine Corps (USMC), an experience that instilled in him discipline, a sense of responsibility and an ethic of service that has accompanied him throughout his life.

Entrepreneur and Community Leader

In addition to being a veteran, Carlos is a successful entrepreneur. He founded Multi Vision Latina, a company that reflects his bicultural identity and commitment to empowering the Hispanic community. But his vocation goes far beyond business: Carlos has spent decades building bridges between diverse sectors and representing the interests of Latino entrepreneurs.

His work as president of the Hispanic Chambers of Commerce of San Francisco has been instrumental in creating spaces for representation, mentorship and opportunities for Latino-led small and medium-sized businesses. Under his leadership, the Chamber has become a strategic ally for entrepreneurs as well as public and private institutions that wish to strengthen their ties with the Hispanic sector.

I am proud to lead a Hispanic Chamber of Commerce because it is a way to give back. As an immigrant who has been in this country for more than 50 years, I feel I have a moral responsibility to use my experience to support those who come after me,” says Carlos.

A commitment to Equity and Development

Carlos is also involved in several non-profit organizations. He is an advisor to the Center for Economic Independence of Women and Youth Foundation (CEIWY), and is active in the American Indian Fraternal Affiliation (AFAN), reflecting his interest in social causes that cross generational and cultural boundaries. For him, every Latino professional has an ethical duty to help his or her community.

Carlos’ mission is summed up in his approach: to blaze trails, build bridges and ensure that Latinos are not only part of the economic conversation, but that they lead in it.

What Many Don’t Know About Hispanic Entrepreneurs

The diversity and strength of Hispanic business is often underestimated. Our entrepreneurial community is resilient, creative and highly committed to local economic development. But we still face structural barriers that limit access to financing, government contracts or technical advice. That is why it is essential to continue fighting for representation and equity,” he says.

Carlos stresses that the Chamber actively works to connect entrepreneurs with training programs, networking and contracting opportunities, both in the private sector and in government entities. “Advocacy for our small businesses is not a luxury, it is a necessity for the economic future of our communities.

How Can We Support Hispanic Entrepreneurs?

For Carlos, real support for Hispanic entrepreneurs starts with three pillars: representation, resources and relationships. “We must advocate for inclusive policies, facilitate access to financial and technical tools, and create strong alliances between chambers, corporations, public institutions and universities.”

He also insists that consumers have a crucial role to play. “By choosing products and services from Latino businesses, you are not only supporting a business: you are supporting a family, a community and a network of dreams that fuel the future of this country.”

Inspiration for a New Generation

Carlos Solórzano-Cuadra represents not only individual success, but the power of transforming that success into collective service. His track record inspires new generations of Latino leaders to look beyond their own achievements and become agents of change in their communities.

From the San Francisco Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, Carlos continues to build a legacy of inclusion, empowerment and collaboration. His message is clear: “Progress in our community begins when we believe in ourselves and work together”.
