Mexicali.- If you are originally from the city of Mexicali, surely you have visited since your childhood the classic kitchen of the ‘Cenaduría Selecta‘, which officially dates back to 1945, founded by Doña María Robles and Don José Vieyra. And if you haven’t yet, you have to try these delicious homemade flavored dishes, a family tradition.
I will tell you a little about its creators, Don José and Doña María are originally from Irapuato, Guanajuato, who arrived in Mexicali in 1935, to work the cotton fields. Years later they dedicated themselves to selling fruit in the winter, and when summer came, they thought of the magnificent idea of preparing delicious ice cream. The couple went through difficult times, business was going very slowly, and it was in this situation that they made the decision to change their line of business, and started in the culinary art, preparing delicious “Mexican food” dishes.
With love and passion when cooking, Doña María developed her great seasoning and flavor in each of the recipes on her menu. They started their project with a food stall in the center of the city, in La Chinesca. Their success was so great, and sure that their clients would continue to prefer them, they bought a house on the outer part of Mexicali, and in the garage, they installed their first diner.
In 1945 they had a building made especially for the restaurant, located on Arista and G Street, Colonia Nueva, which they inaugurated as La Cenaduria Selecta, which after 44 years of providing the best service, placed them as an excellent Mexican Food restaurant.
It should be noted that today even the fourth generation of the clients of its founders come to the restaurant, delighting in favorite dishes such as Mole Poblano, Tacos de Machaca, Enchiladas, Chilaquiles, Pozole, Menudo, Tacos dorados de Res, and Chiles Rellenos, among others.
Whenever I visit my hometown, Mexicali, it is mandatory to stop at Cenaduría Selecta, and I want to share that their prices are affordable, with first-class service, they have a very extensive menu that includes breakfast, and they are open from Tuesday to Sunday from 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. and Mondays from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. In addition, due to its construction and decoration, it gives the impression that you are in the heart of a house. It is truly a restaurant with a lot of heart.
On the menu you can find delicious desserts such as the classic flan, and drinks with or without alcohol, horchata and Jamaica hibiscus water, and a variety of coffees.
