Ambassador Alicia G. Kerber-Palma officially began her duties as the new Consul General of Mexico in San Diego, California on February 26, 2024.
The appointment of Kerber-Palma, proposed by President Andrés Manuel López Obrador, was unanimously endorsed by Mexico’s Senate on December 13, 2023.
She holds a bachelor’s degree in law from Universidad Iberoamericana and validated her master’s and doctorate studies in international law at the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM, for its acronym in Spanish).
She joined the Mexican Foreign Service in 1991, reaching the rank of Ambassador in 2022. Regarding her professional career in Mexico’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, from June 2019 to June 2023, she served as the Consul General of Mexico in Houston.
Amb. Kerber previously served as Head of Political Affairs at the Mexican Embassy in Colombia, Consul of Mexico in San Pedro Sula, Honduras, and as Representative of Mexico at the Organization of American States (OAS).
She also served as Chargé d’Affaires at the Embassy of Mexico in Ireland, Consul of Mexico in Finland, and Consul of Mexico in Kansas City, where she designed and executed the Women’s Comprehensive Care Window (VAIM by its acronym in Spanish), aimed at providing specialized services to migrant women. The program’s successful results allowed it to be institutionalized in the 53 consulates of Mexico in the U.S. and some Mexican embassies in the world, strengthening the objectives of the Feminist Foreign Policy. Additionally, Amb. Kerber is a promoter of inclusion, diversity, and the rights of women and the LGBTQ+ community.
In the academic area, Ambassador Kerber has taught International Law at various universities and authored articles and essays published in specialized legal journals in Mexico and other countries.
