Supplier Diversity Impact

1 min read

The California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) is a state agency in California, USA, responsible for regulating various public utility services. Its primary areas of jurisdiction include overseeing utilities such as electricity, natural gas, telecommunications, water, and transportation companies. The CPUC’s main objectives are to ensure safe, reliable, and affordable utility services while promoting environmental sustainability and consumer protection. It plays a crucial role in setting rates, enforcing rules and regulations, and making decisions that impact California’s utility infrastructure and services.

The 21st Annual Supplier Diversity En Banc took place at the California Center for the Arts in Escondido, CA, where several members of important entities got together to discuss and evaluate diversity’s importance in every way.

The meeting convened to discuss issues related to supplier diversity within public utilities. Supplier diversity initiatives aim to promote the inclusion of businesses owned by minorities, women, veterans, and other underrepresented groups in procurement opportunities with utility companies.

Julian Canete, President and CEO of the California Hispanic Chamber of Commerce was one of the speakers in the 1st panel, where the discussion revolved around building a stronger foundation of influence. Canete clearly emphasized “advocacy, education, and empowerment in minorities, especially the Hispanic community, has been the Mission of the Chamber for decades of years”, and was a phrase used to describe the CPUC event’s purpose.

La Revista Binacional is advocating as well, being a media platform that gets the word out, for the inclusivity of minorities in all sectors, with the help of Hispanic Chambers like California and the United States Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, and of course T-Mobile.

T-Mobile, one of the major Telecommunications Corporations, has been supportive and inclusive in many ways, not only with sponsorships but with programs that are reaching minorities in every corner of this country.

Olga Perelman, Senior Director of Technology Procurement from T-Mobile, was right on target with her participation in how to leverage practices to increase the pool of diverse suppliers.

Being included, as a minority business, is what large corporations are now aiming to achieve. T-Mobile is an example that others should follow.

Congratulations to the CPUC and the Sponsors that made this event possible.
