It’s been more than twenty years since we saw Lindsay Lohan and Jamie Lee Curtis swap lives in the iconic Freaky Friday (2003). And while many Disney sequels and reboots end up being forgettable, Freaky Friday 2 (2025) arrives to surprise us in a big way: funny, nostalgic, and with a lot of heart. Yes, I’ll say it without fear: this movie deserves much more recognition than it’s getting!
Anna and Tess, two women who grew up with us
One of the best things about this sequel is seeing the incredible development of its characters. Anna (Lohan), that rebellious teenager who just wanted to play with her band, is now a responsible and protective mother, facing the same fears and frustrations her mother once had. On the other hand, Dr. Tess Coleman (Curtis) is no longer that strict, control-obsessed mother: she is now a relaxed, fun, and surprisingly understanding grandmother to her granddaughter. It’s beautiful to see how their roles have reversed and how life has given them new perspectives.
Cameos that will make you smile
Something that fans of the original will love is the number of surprise cameos from the 2003 cast. I don’t want to spoil the experience for you, but suffice it to say that each appearance is a direct hit of nostalgia, the kind of detail that makes fans feel cared for and heard.
More fun than we expected

Let’s be honest: with so many reboots and sequels coming out of Disney, you don’t expect much anymore. But Freaky Friday 2 breaks that streak. The movie is hilarious, with scenes that make you laugh out loud, and although it plays with familiar formulas, it does so with such freshness and energy that you end up having a great time. And of course, the chemistry between Lohan and Curtis is still at the heart of it all: you can tell how much they enjoyed filming it, and that joy is contagious for the audience.
Jamie Lee Curtis: the absolute queen
Although Lindsay shines brightly in her comeback, it must be said: Jamie Lee Curtis steals every scene, and we mean EVERY scene. Her comic timing and expressiveness make every moment she’s on screen pure gold.
A movie for everyone
Best of all, Freaky Friday 2 is a movie you can enjoy with the whole family. If you were a fan of the first one, you can’t miss this one because it does justice to the 2003 classic. And if this is your first time with the story, you’ll still laugh and be moved by this crazy but endearing family adventure.
In a year where many sequels come and go without much fanfare, this is one that’s truly worth watching. So if you’re looking for a lighthearted comedy, full of nostalgia and heart, don’t hesitate: give Freaky Friday 2 a chance.
