Our fellow Jedi readers, it’s that time of the year again! That’s right, it’s Star Wars Day and we’re ready to celebrate like it’s the end of the clone wars.
In case you missed out, May the 4th has become known as “Star Wars Day” a fan-created holiday to celebrate the Star Wars franchise. The date was chosen because “May the 4th” sounds like “May the Force,” a famous phrase from the movies (“May the Force be with you“). The first official celebration of Star Wars Day took place in Toronto, Canada, in 2011, and it has since become a global phenomenon with fans around the world celebrating with parties, events, and special Star Wars-related activities. It’s a day for fans to show their love for the franchise and share their favorite moments and memories from the movies, TV shows, books, and other Star Wars-related media.
And to celebrate this day here are some facts about Star Wars:
- The first Star Wars movie was originally titled “The Adventures of Luke Starkiller, as taken from the Journal of the Whills, Saga I: The Star Wars.”
- The famous opening crawl text of the Star Wars movies was inspired by the Flash Gordon serials from the 1930s.
- The sound of a lightsaber was created by combining the hum of an old television set with the buzz of an old movie projector.
- The famous line “I have a bad feeling about this” is spoken in every Star Wars movie.
- Harrison Ford was not originally cast as Han Solo, but rather as a carpenter who was helping to build sets for the movie.
- The Ewoks were originally intended to be Wookiees, but the filmmakers decided that they needed a smaller, more manageable species for the story.
- Darth Vader’s breathing was created by recording the sound of a scuba regulator.
- The character of Yoda was originally going to be played by a monkey wearing a mask and carrying a cane.
- Mark Hamill, who played Luke Skywalker, got in a car accident during the filming of The Empire Strikes Back, which is why his face is scarred in the movie.
- The character of Jabba the Hutt was originally a human but was changed to a giant slug-like creature in later versions of the script.
- The pants worn by Mark Hamill in the first film were just Levi blue jeans bleached out, with the back pockets removed.
- The term “Stormtroopers” was inspired by the nickname for Nazi soldiers.
- The Star Wars franchise has grossed a worldwide box office revenue of over $10 billion.
- Despite the titular soldiers playing a central role in Attack of the Clones, no clone trooper suits were used in the film.
