It’s hard to describe concerts. It isn’t easy to write what one really feels when you are in front of a real artist with many years of experience and she presents you with a show that leaves you breathless.
TIMPANO PRODUCCIONES, under the direction of Cecilia Salazar, brought YURI to the border city of Mexicali, the blondie from Veracruz who began her career in the late 70s, gaining her consolidation and recognition when she participated in the 1980 OTI festival.
On her EUFORIA tour, Yuri demonstrates that after a 45-year career, she is still an artist with a privileged voice and the Queen of Latin Pop that we all love and admire.
For more than two and a half hours, Yuri delighted her audience, transporting everyone to the past with songs full of memories. The dances, the costumes, the music, and her open and humble personality make her the GOAT of Latin pop.
The show would not be complete without Yuri’s impersonators, who had their moment of fame when she invited them to her stage. Her support for the entire LGBTQ + community is unconditional, and that makes her great.
The venue was in the FEX of Mexicali, an entertainment center that used to be the ‘palenque’ where rooster fights took place. Now it’s just to have these types of concerts that feel so intimate since the place is small and the artist is just a few meters away.
TIMPANO PRODUCCIONES‘ quality of organizing the event was unmistakable. The security, the flow, and the attendance (mostly Generation X women) combined perfectly and witnessed one of the best concerts of artists that have returned to fill stages.
The blast from the past, remembering songs of OTI Festival (Iberoamerican Television Organization), the songs by Juan Gabriel, and a taste of what “Celebrating a Legend” (a tribute to Yuri herself), made the entire audience sing at the top of their lungs.
HOMBRES AL BORDE DE UN ATAQUE DE CELOS (Men on the Verge of Jealousy), EL ESPEJO (Mirror), ¿Es ella más que yo? (Is she more than me?) Lyrics were heard all over the place. After saying goodbye a couple of times and returning after an ovation, the show ended with the batucada of “Protection,” where Yuri showed that, as a good Veracruz woman, she carries tropical rhythm in her veins.
A round of applause to these artists who are real, who not only seek money and the applause of the public but also give themselves over to the art of giving a good show for the love of the art of music.
We want more concerts and artists like YURI.
