It was a beautiful morning at CBX, (Cross Border Express, the bridge that connects San Diego with Tijuana International Airport).
Karen Higareda, Director of Public Relations and Government Affairs at CBX, greeted all of us, making formal introductions to all of the special guests.
Jorge Goytortúa, CEO of CBX, expressed his grateful words and explained to us what “Warm Hearts Warm Meals” was all about, a collective effort between CBX and Hand in Hand, This is About Humanity, Fundación Binacional Tijuana Sin Hambre and International Community Foundation.
Yolanda Selene Walther Meade, from This is about Humanity, Maru Riqué from Fundación Tijuana Sin Hambre and Lety Martinez from International Community Foundation were excited and happy that so much work had paid off.
In a beautiful setting, Goytortúa and Higareda greeted their staff from CBX, honoring their work and letting them know that this collective effort was possible because of their hard work.
A total of $102,458.80 was awarded to WARM HEART WARM MEALS, money that will go to feed thousands of people in need in the border community.
The International Community Foundation (ICF) is a nonprofit organization that focuses on facilitating philanthropy and charitable giving with an international scope. ICF’s mission is to connect donors in the United States and elsewhere with community-based organizations and initiatives in Mexico and other parts of the world. They work to strengthen communities, support environmental conservation, and promote social and economic development.
ICF acts as a bridge between donors who want to make a positive impact globally and local nonprofit organizations and projects in various regions, including Latin America, that are in need of support. This Is About Humanity creates a community of allies and advocates dedicated to raising awareness about separated and reunified families and children at the U.S.-Mexico border. It is a community dedicated to raising awareness about separated and reunified families and children at the border.
They educate others on being allies and advocates, and through their proximate trips to the border and their This is About Humanity fiscal sponsorship fund at the International Community Foundation help support those individuals with essentials for living, access to legal services, mental wellness checkups, and other shelter projects. They also provide for a range of projects including educational bus trips to the border, donations to legal services, construction projects at shelters, as well as material goods for unaccompanied minors.

Fundación Tijuana Sin Hambre is a non-profit civil association, promoted by volunteers from both sides of the border. Their efforts began during the pandemic. Seeing how their city was hit by a hunger crisis and unemployment, they realized that through food they could make a big change. Their greatest achievement has been to position themselves, in less than three years, as a leading foundation against hunger and food insecurity. With more than 2500 volunteers on both sides of the border, 380,000 people have benefited from this and 3000 meals that are delivered daily to shelters and orphanages make this an amazing foundation we should all look into helping. As Jorge Goytortúa once said “What more can we do to take it a step further?”, CBX is not only known for being an example of communication for traveling between two countries, but also an organization that is giving back to the community and helping in many ways with its “Hand in Hand” program.
