Alan Tornel exemplifies the essence of Latino Excellence through his unwavering commitment to community advancement, healthcare equity, and youth empowerment. Born in San Diego and raised in the vibrant San Ysidro community, Alan’s life has been shaped by the rich cultural tapestry of the U.S.-Mexico border. This unique upbringing instilled in him a deep appreciation for diversity and the interconnectedness of communities on both sides of the border.

Alan’s academic journey began at Southwestern College, where he laid the foundation for his future endeavors. His dedication to education and personal growth earned him a place as a Chancellor’s Associate Scholar at the University of California, San Diego (UCSD). Currently, Alan is pursuing his MBA at UCSD’s Rady School of Management, where he is refining his expertise in leadership, strategic planning, and operational excellence.

As the Business Development Manager for San Diego County’s largest PACE (Program of All-Inclusive Care for the Elderly) program, Alan plays a pivotal role in enhancing healthcare access and improving community well-being. His work is centered on developing innovative strategies to ensure that healthcare services are accessible to all, particularly underserved populations. With the upcoming expansion of San Ysidro Health’s services, including the acquisition of the Jacobs Center and the opening of a new site in National City in 2025, Alan is at the forefront of engagement efforts in these areas. His leadership focuses on creating pathways to equitable healthcare, fostering economic growth, and promoting the prosperity of the communities he serves.

Alan’s impact extends beyond his professional responsibilities. In 2024, he was honored as a Latino Leader of Influence by the San Diego Business Journal for the second consecutive year. This recognition underscores his significant contributions to the region and his dedication to uplifting others. Alan’s passion for empowering future generations is evident through his service as Vice President of the Board of Directors for MANA of North County. In this role, he champions youth development initiatives, mentors emerging leaders, and fosters opportunities for community empowerment.
