“Pittsburgh may not be famous for having a large Hispanic population, but our community is here, diverse and strong,” Melanie emphasizes. She highlights how the Hispanic entrepreneurs and business owners in the region come from various backgrounds, representing a unique blend of races and cultures. “It’s important to recognize that we are not a monolith. Our local Hispanic community is full of dynamic, diverse individuals who are contributing to the region in profound ways.” She believes that the unique intersectionality within the Hispanic community adds to its strength, and it’s something more people should acknowledge and celebrate.

How can we better support Hispanic business owners and entrepreneurs?

Melanie believes that tailored support is key to the success of Hispanic entrepreneurs. “To truly support Hispanic business owners, we need programs that are ‘for us, by us,’ designed to meet the specific needs of our community,” she explains.
