DÍA DE LAS VELITAS. A COLOMBIAN CELEBRATION!

1 min read

In Colombia, the happiest time of the year begins in a truly spectacular way. Every December 7, my country lights up with a national celebration known as “Día de Las Velitas,” and it is a tradition that is carried out in a very special way in my family.

Joy and excitement invade every street, and the atmosphere is filled with lights, candles, lanterns and fireworks. For me, this day marks the official start of the Christmas season, and it is an occasion I look forward to every year.

Although this beautiful tradition has a religious origin related to the Immaculate Conception of the Virgin Mary, over time, it has evolved to become a cultural and social event in Colombia. This transformation has been reflected in the diversity of activities that take place in different cities of the country.
