My name is Damián, and I am a sixteen-year-old high school student in CETYS Universidad Mexicali.
Last Saturday, I had the opportunity to go to a baseball game all by myself. I have always wanted to do this, and I finally got the chance to do it.
I love baseball. I guess I have loved this sport all my life. My first memory of it is listening to the Dodgers with my dad and getting to know Vin Scully’s peculiar voice.
I got ready that day, just my phone, a wallet, and a UCLA sweatshirt and I was on my way. As soon as I got there, I knew it was going to be a wonderful day. Petco Park is by far one of the most beautiful ballparks in the world. It is surrounded by tall buildings, and you can even see the bay and the ocean from the top tier. San Diego’s downtown and big city lifestyle make the experience even better.
My seat was on the upper deck, so I had a panoramic view of the field and the whole stadium. The San Diego Padres were playing the Minnesota Twins, so I was excited to see both teams play each other.
Being alone was a very relaxing experience. I got to do everything on my own rhythm. I appreciated every single play and enjoyed the game without any distractions. It was something I always wanted to do.
I snacked on a giant pretzel and chicken strips with ranch and felt weird that nobody asked for a bite.
My whole family loves baseball, so I felt lonesome when I didn’t have anybody to share or comment on a play that just happened. It felt weird being around strangers and you miss not having anybody to joke around when you see something funny.
Overall, I had a great time with myself. It was a fun game, the weather was amazing, the food was great, and I had a chance to sit in that beautiful stadium, just baseball and me.
I would do it all over again and I encourage you to experience it yourself.
