Monterrey remains calm despite being eliminated from the Club World Cup—after all, they gave their best and even had a chance to tie the match against Borussia Dortmund in the Round of 16.
Sergio Ramos said he was hurt by the 2-1 loss, but “proud” of the performance by the Mexican team at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta.
“We leave with a clear conscience for having played well. Sometimes in football, things just don’t go your way. It’s a shame to be out of the Club World Cup, out of a competition, but we feel proud,” said the Spanish defender, who nearly scored the equalizer in stoppage time with a header that went just wide.
“We had to exit this tournament, but it will help us continue growing as a team in the future. We leave with our heads held high,” reiterated the 39-year-old player, who joined Rayados at the beginning of the year.
Ramos highlighted the upward trend of Liga MX and affirmed that Mexican football is in a process of growth, with a quality that matches the major leagues around the world.
Rayados will make their Apertura 2025 debut on July 13 against Pachuca—coincidentally, the other Mexican team that competed in the Club World Cup.
