The United States government has officially announced the reopening of the Pedestrian West Crossing Facility (PedWest) at the San Ysidro Port of Entry, which closed its doors in April 2020 due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

As of January 9th, PedWest will be available for international border crossing, but with a limited schedule. Pedestrians will be able to cross to the United States from Tijuana from 6:00 AM to 2:00 PM, and will operate only for northbound traffic, meaning that while you can cross to the United States using both PedEast and PedWest, to cross the Mexican border, you will need to do so by using the Eastern entrance.

This announcement activated a working group with representatives from the Government of the State of Baja California, the City of Tijuana, and the National Institute of Migration, or the INM by its acronym in Spanish, with the support of the state and municipal police, the National Guard, INDAABIN, the Tax Administration Service (SAT), and the Consulate General of Mexico in San Diego as facilitator and liaison with the US immigration authority at the local level.

The reopening of PedWest will facilitate those who cross the border every day for work, school, and other activities, benefiting thousands of citizens on both sides of the border.
