Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo is the epicenter of this scenario, a prominent figure whose leadership has resonated in Mexico City and is now projected into the national sphere. Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo, born June 24, 1962, in Mexico City, is a prominent Mexican politician, scientist, activist, and writer. She is the first woman to hold the position of head of government of Mexico City as of December 5, 2018. She comes from a Jewish family of Bulgarian and Lithuanian origin, being the daughter of chemist Carlos Sheinbaum Yoselevitz and biologist Annie Pardo Cemo.

As for her academic background, Claudia Sheinbaum obtained her bachelor’s degree in Physics from the Faculty of Sciences of the National Autonomous University of Mexico. She continued her studies with a master’s degree and Ph.D. in Energy Engineering at the same institution and a Ph.D. at the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory in the United States, focusing on energy, environment, and physics.

During her tenure as the head of the Government of Mexico City, Sheinbaum carried out various actions to improve the quality of life for citizens:

Urban Mobility:

She modernized the Metrobus transportation system, expanded several subway lines, and developed the Cablebus, betting on sustainable mobility.

Education:

Promoted programs such as “Mi Beca para Empezar” and “La Escuela es Nuestra, Mejor Escuela” to guarantee access to education and founded educational institutions such as Universidad Rosario Castellanos and Universidad de la Salud.

Public Safety:

Implemented a security strategy based on attention to causes, increased police, intelligence, and investigation, achieving significant reductions in high-impact crimes.

Women’s Empowerment:

Declared the Alert for Violence against Women, founded units for attention and prevention of gender violence (LUNAS), established the SOS line (*765), and created the DNA Bank to combat violence against women.

Health:

Created three hospitals and a trans clinic in Mexico City and signed an agreement with the Mexican Social Security Institute (IMSS) for the IMSS-Bienestar program, strengthening access to health care.
