People don’t realize Mean Girls (2024) is a full musical. So, if you’re into musicals, this may be your movie, but if not, then you might wait for this movie to come out on any stream channel so you can watch it in the comfort of your home at your own pace.

First things first. Mean Girls (2024) is a musical comedy adaptation of the original film, directed by Tina Fey herself, in which she reprises her same character. It’s been almost 20 years since the original adaptation came out in theaters and we think it’s a fun homage to this iconic film. We know that when a movie is good enough, it’s hard to overshadow it (even if it’s been 20 years). However, this movie is totally aimed at the new generations and it’s time to share the genius of the 2000’s with a younger audience, adapting it to the new trends.

The film has received mixed reviews, with some critics praising its lighthearted and hilarious take on the original, while others argue that it loses some of the essence of the original film.

Here are some of the positive’s notes:

  • A talented cast, with Reneé Rapp’s performances as Regina George standing out. With her confident, assured and above all wicked attitude, I’m sure Rachel McAdams would be proud of her performance. As well as Avantika Vandanapu as the hilarious Karen Shetty and Jaquel Spivey as Damian Hubbard shined. These two stole the scenes throughout the movie and gave us the funniest moments.
  • Catchy music and memorable choreography, such as “Sexy”, with disco influences. The Halloween party scene, the costumes, their choreography, and the whole set itself was the best produced of the whole musical. Simply brilliant. By the way, you can already listen to the soundtrack of the movie on Spotify.
  • Lastly, there is the modern and diverse cast, with more representation from different backgrounds and experiences. Also the participation of some of our favorite characters from the original movie.

However, there are also some negative reviews:

  • The film has been described as an overblown musical adaptation, with some arguing that the addition of music and lyrics overshadowed the original story and characters. As well as that some songs were unnecessarily long that even the most musical lovers would have been bored by.
  • Some critics argue that the film loses the edge and depth of the original, focusing more on high school drama clichés and sexual innuendo in the lyrics.

Ultimately, whether Mean Girls (2024) becomes a favorite might depend on your love for musicals and your willingness to embrace a modern reinterpretation of a classic. If you’re a musical enthusiast, this might be the perfect movie for you, offering a delightful and rhythm-filled homage to the iconic Mean Girls. For those less inclined towards musicals, waiting to enjoy it in the comfort of your home might be a more enjoyable option. Regardless, Mean Girls (2024) is a testament to the timeless appeal of the original story, continuing to spark conversations and entertain audiences across different generations.
