As we gear up for our 4th annual El Zapatón Shoes for Wellness Fair presented by Kafri Heart & Vascular this December, we are reminded of our dedicated staff’s impact on the families we serve every year.
In December 2020, Ms. Rodriguez* and her 4 children (ranging in age from 2-8) joined other families in a line of cars for the 2nd annual El Zapatón Shoes for Wellness Fair. They were all recovering from COVID earlier that month, and as a single mom who had been out of work for 2 months, she needed relief to get her and her family back on their feet. So, she contacted SYHealth. Our Social Services staff personally worked to get them emergency food and, realizing their situation, signed the Rodriguez family up for the 2020 El Zapatón event. As the line moved forward, Ms. Rodriguez noticed a familiar face dressed as Mrs. Claus, handing out incentives through the windows of the cars in front of her. It was the same face that drove to her home weeks before to hand-deliver food to ensure they made it through the holidays. That same face would continue to support her and her family through the years ahead.
