Resident Free Tuesday at The San Diego Museum of Art

Did you know that next Tuesday, April 18, The Museum of Art in San Diego will have a promotion called “Resident Free Tuesday”? In which the museum will offer free admission to San Diego residents (with ID) from 10 am to 5 pm.

Some of the exhibits you will be able to find that day are:

  • German Expressionism: Paintings that were characterized by their rejection of academicism and their search for new forms of artistic expression that reflected the anguish and alienation felt in the society of the time. In these paintings, expressionist artists used intense colors and distorted forms to reflect the tension and anxiety of modern society.

  • From Renaissance to Realism: This gallery highlights secular works of art, from scenes of everyday life-including landscapes, still lifes, and interiors-to historical, mythological, and literary subjects.

  • The art of Devotion: From the High Middle Ages to the Renaissance and Baroque, much of the artistic production in Europe was commissioned by the Catholic Church or by wealthy aristocratic and royal patrons.

  • Art of Iran: The museum collects and presents contemporary art that speaks to the historical collection or addresses current issues, such as cultural dislocation, the diasporic experience, and religious and spiritual identity. Works by established and emerging artists from Iran, Central Asia and the Persian diaspora can be featured in the Arts of Iran gallery.

  • South and Southwest Asian Art: Early works are mostly religious, relating to the ritual practices of Buddhism, Jainism and Hinduism. Although each religion has its own gods and divinities, all three base their iconography on the human form.
