NHMC IMACT AWARDS GALA… “We are the RULE, not the Exception”

2 mins read

The National Hispanic Media Coalition (NHMC) is a nonprofit organization in the United States that focuses on advocating for the advancement of Latinos in the media and entertainment industries. NHMC was founded in 1986 and is headquartered in Los Angeles, California. The organization’s mission is to increase the presence and portrayal of Latinos in the media, as well as to promote media diversity and fair representation.

NHMC works on various initiatives and campaigns to achieve its goals, including advocating for more diverse and accurate portrayals of Latinos in the media, promoting policies and practices that support diversity in the industry, and encouraging Latinos to pursue careers in media and entertainment. The organization also provides resources and support for content creators and professionals in the field.

NHMC engages in various activities, such as research, media advocacy, education, and networking, to address issues of representation, stereotyping, and employment opportunities for Latinos in the media and entertainment sectors. The organization seeks to foster a more inclusive and equitable media landscape in the United States.

On October 27th, La Revista Binacional attended the Impact Awards Gala, where the Hispanic and Latino of the media were awarded in different categories.

The amazing Vibiana venue in Los Angeles (that used to be the old Catholic Cathedral) was perfect for setting up the vibe that night.

Brenda Victoria Castillo, president and CEO of NHMC made everyone cheer when in her welcome speech she emphasized that “Latinos/Hispanics are the RULE, not the Exception”.

A beautiful night filled with stars (literally), exquisite dinner and a powerful crowd of influential personalities celebrated the awardees.

  • Master Creator Impact Award: Chef Aarón Sánchez “lets bring back the art of cooking slow (like our abuelas)”.
  • Next Generation Impact award: Jharrel Jerome The “dominican from the bronx”.
  • Icon Impact Award: Eva Longoria, beautiful actress, philanthropist, director and influential celebrity.
  • Social Impact Award: Eugenio Derbez , one of Latin America’s most loved actor and comedian/influential person. One of the most humble and talented persons in the room. He explained to everyone about his “Tripas Studios” (3Pas Studios) and how he should maybe change the name. He really put a smile in everyone’s face.
  • Visionary Impact Award Jessica Sarowitz spoke to everyone about “Con Esta Luz”, a story about a nun Sister Maria Rosa and her devotion to aid hungry children in Honduras.

These are the stories that need to be told.

For the People Impact Award: Julissa Prado founder of Rizos Curls was an inspiration to all, especially young latinas with a dream.

Outstanding Film director impact: Angel Manuel Soto that gave the world Blue Beetle, the first Hispanic Superhero.

Our Voice Impact Award: Gina Torres the beautiful Cuban American actress with a strong voice reminded everyone in the room that we need to stand up to our representatives and remind them of what we need, or we need to “vote those “m•••••• F••••rs out!”

Powerhouse Impact: Miguel, great composer and singer, the new wave of R&B artists and the influential new crowd of Latinos.

What the National Hispanic Media Coalition does for latino actors and actresses is something all of the community should support.

Stereotyped Hispanics into the same roles when auditioning can be really upsetting and tiring. Latinos and Hispanics are so much more than what you see on screen.

We come in all different colors, sizes, talents, and social and multi-cultural talents. Bravo to Brenda Victoria Castillo for being the leader of this great non-profit organization and special thanks to T-Mobile for having LA REVISTA BINACIONAL at their table.

It was truly a night to remember with a room filled with #LatinoExcellence
